As Christians, it’s important that we desire growth in our spiritual life. We cannot remain babies, we need to grow and attain son ship. Remember, as many as are led by the Spirit, they are the sons of God. Growth, as we know, doesn’t happen accidentally, rather it’s intentional. What’s your plan for spiritual growth this year? Or you expect to grow by chance? What’s your plan to know God, Love God and Serve God? It is said that ” If you leave your life to chance, you don’t have a chance”. Not even in your spiritual life. Let’s us learn our basics responsibilities for spiritual growth.
Prayer
With the busyness of life, we may tend to push our prayer time and get to a point where it becomes a habit. We find out that it’s been two (2) days since we last prayed. Oops! How did that happen? Spiritual growth requires discipline and commitment to spend time with God daily. The more we spend time with God, the more we know him, the more we love him and the more we grow in him. Decide today (if you haven’t already), to refuse to miss prayer daily. Whether it’s for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 hour or more, make sure you pray daily. That way, you enjoy the presence of your father. What better place to be! Approach his Presence with the voice of praise and appreciation, confess your sins and make your request. Have a prayer journal (see Page 2) where you document your prayer request and pray it through daily. Pray broadly – not just for yourself and your needs but also for your family, pastor, your local church, lost souls, your nation and the world.
Be sure to return to your journal and tick the requests that have turned into answers. That strengthens your faith.
Fasting
What day of the week would you fast? Fasting at least once a week helps our spiritual life, makes us open to the Spirit and keeps us alert. ( To be continued)
