I guess we have all rushed through seasons, positions, or situations in our lives. This is common among human beings. We are always looking forward to the next level or the future so eagerly that it’s very difficult to take full advantage of the present stage or condition we are in. When we were kids, the only desire was to become an adult. College students want to quickly finish their education so they can work. Singles are earnestly praying to get married. Married people want to have kids and when they have kids they want them to quickly grow so they will be free from changing diapers and so on and so forth. We desire so much that we are finally missing out on our present condition.
This burning desire has a name: discontentment. It is, by definition, a longing for something better than the present situation. It occurs that we are not fully present, aware, and awake in our present condition. But God knows the best for us, what we truly need, and when we are ready for it. In this season of thanksgiving, let us learn to be content and thankful no matter the conditions. There is a reason why we are still in our present situation. It is true that sometimes we want to experience something else but it is good for us to trust the Lord and patiently wait for his timing. (Philippians 4:11-13).
Let us not despise what we are doing now because the key for this better future we are hoping for is in the present condition. Let us learn to be content in the present situation, love where we are, what we have and continue to pray with hope for a better future.
