Behind independence, there is a little pride or rebellion. This pride is not bad when it is use the appropriate way and for the good reasons. In the book of Genesis, out of pride Satan rebelled himself against God, he and some angels were casted out of the presence of the Lord and pushed down to earth cursed. Then, he became the prince and ruler of this earth. He thought he could reign better than the Lord and wanted the worship and praise that belongs to God. He seduced Adam and Eve and we know the rest of the story. But glory to God who sent Jesus Christ down to pay for our freedom. So, we are no longer slaves of Satan and his crew. We have been redeemed by the saving grace and power of the blood of Jesus shed at the cross of Calvary. Jesus went down to the grave, he took the keys, and set us free. He ascended to heaven and he is seated at the right hand of the father interceding day and night for us. Who the son (Jesus-Christ) set free is free indeed (John 8:36). Therefore, we are free from the fortress, snare of the devil. Our minds, hearts, and spirits are free.
So let’s remember every single day that we have been saved from our old evil master (all types of sin… Example: rebellion, pride, lie, comparison etc…) to submit to our Lord Jesus. His yoke is easy and his burden is light (Mathew 11:30). The little pride in us must be used against the lies and arrows of the old master (devil, flesh, low self-esteem etc…).
The celebration of independence remind us that we need to get closer to God and acknowledge that we truly need him. Without him, we can’t make it. We are not interested in trying him like they did in the making of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9), but instead we want to receive from him so we may fulfill our destinies.
Be inspired to inspire.
